Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Proposes Paying Engineers with AI Tokens
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has put forward a radical new idea for compensating tech talent: paying engineers part of their salary in AI tokens.
Speaking recently, Huang suggested that in addition to their already high base salaries in Silicon Valley, engineers could receive a substantial bonus in the form of AI compute tokens — equivalent to roughly half of their base salary.
These tokens would allow employees to freely use powerful AI tools and delegate tasks to AI agents with minimal human oversight.
A New Model of Compensation
According to Huang, the idea is straightforward:
“Base salary is high. We can add tokens on top — enough for engineers to run as many AI agents as they want.”
This approach reflects Huang’s broader vision of the future of work. He believes that the role of human engineers will evolve from writing code themselves to orchestrating fleets of AI agents that do the heavy lifting.
Nvidia is already preparing for this reality. Huang stated that alongside its current 42,000 human employees, the company expects to have hundreds of thousands of AI agents working in parallel in the near future.
