The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has kicked off the new academic year with a groundbreaking initiative, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) as a mandatory subject across its public school system.
Beginning with kindergarten and extending through high school, this innovative program aims to equip students with essential AI skills from an early age.
The curriculum, delivered by computer science teachers, emphasizes hands-on learning and project-based activities rather than traditional exams. Students explore the fundamentals of neural networks, AI design, prompt engineering, and the ethical implications of AI usage. The approach is tailored to each educational stage, ensuring age-appropriate engagement and fostering practical understanding.
In a unique move, the UAE government is also providing all residents with free access to ChatGPT Plus, enhancing opportunities for self-directed learning and innovation beyond the classroom.
