Shitcoins Begin Migrating from Solana to Base Layer 2 Network

A significant shift is underway in the cryptocurrency landscape as shitcoins — low-value, speculative tokens — start migrating from Solana to Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer 2 network.

For the first time, Base surpassed Solana in daily token launches on July 27, 2025, with over 54,000 new tokens minted compared to Solana’s 25,000. This dramatic uptick is largely driven by the integration of Farcaster and Zora, platforms that transform every user post into a tradable token with instant liquidity, fueling a surge in token creation.

The momentum on Base is reshaping the ecosystem, positioning it as a new hub for meme coins and experimental tokens. Zora, a decentralized content network, allows posts to be tokenized as ERC-20 tokens or NFTs, while Farcaster enhances distribution across decentralized social networks.

This synergy has propelled Base’s daily token launches from around 6,600 in early July to over 50,000 by month-end, outpacing Solana’s once-dominant position in the meme coin space.

Meanwhile, Solana is experiencing a noticeable decline. Trading volumes and revenues on popular platforms like Pump.fun and LetsBonk are dropping, reflecting a broader cooling of interest in meme tokens. Over the past week, the market capitalization of meme coins fell by 15%, while trading volumes plummeted by more than 50%. This downturn suggests that Solana’s ecosystem, heavily reliant on speculative token activity, is losing its edge as Base’s innovative approach attracts creators and traders alike.

The shift raises questions about the sustainability of this migration. While Base’s growth is impressive, much of the token activity appears driven by short-term speculation rather than long-term utility. Solana, despite its setbacks, retains strengths in trading volume and established infrastructure, hinting that the race for dominance may not be over. As the crypto market evolves, the battle between these networks could redefine the future of shitcoin-driven innovation.
