
Amazon Loses the Podcast Wars
Despite pouring millions into the venture, Amazon has waved the white flag in its battle to rival podcasting giants YouTube and Spotify. After four years of trying to make its mark in the audio space, the Jeff Bezos-led empire has decided to shut down its Wondery studio, acquired for $300 million in 2020. As part of this "optimization" of unprofitable media ventures, 110 employees, including Wondery CEO Jen Sargent, will be laid off.
