Zoë Kravitz Shares Rare Thoughts on Ex Channing Tatum Two Months Post-Breakup

Breakups are tough, particularly under the scrutiny of the public.

Zoë Kravitz has gracefully kept quiet since her separation from Channing Tatum.

They initially crossed paths when she chose him for a part in her first film as a director, Blink Twice.

Rather than speaking ill, Kravitz has opted to commend her former partner's professional efforts in public.

The couple worked together on Kravitz's directorial debut

In a Directors on Directors interview with The Batman director Matt Reeves for Variety, Zoë Kravitz explained her reasoning for casting Channing Tatum in her directorial debut, Blink Twice.

She admitted she aimed to "weaponize his charisma," a strategy that's hard to fault given his charm.

"Channing was the first person I thought of for Slater King, and I don’t know where that came from," Kravitz commented on his role.

Tatum portrays a charismatic billionaire in the psychological thriller, a character type Kravitz noted audiences haven't seen him tackle before.

Even after their engagement ended in October, Kravitz spoke positively of him.

"I knew that the character needed to be somebody who we think we trust, especially because you don’t believe Naomi [Ackie] (who played Frida) is getting on that plane if it’s someone who is immediately insidious," Kravitz explained.

In a 2021 interview, she mentioned, "[He was the one] I thought of when I wrote this character.

I just knew from Magic Mike and his live shows, I got the sense he's a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter."

She also enjoyed watching Tatum in a villainous role, calling it "delicious" to see him stretch his acting muscles.

Kravitz elaborated, “He was doing such a good job, and as an actor, I'm like, ‘This is delicious stuff that he's never gotten a chance to do,'" she said.

"And also, he's doing this part because he's an ally. He wants to tell this story.”

The pair have managed to remain amicable

They had previously promoted Blink Twice together as a couple, celebrating the unique experience of working alongside one's partner.

Tatum expressed to PEOPLE magazine, "To get to create something with someone that you love is probably one of the most gratifying things."

Kravitz echoed this sentiment, stating, "We got to work together and go through hard things together and support each other, and it was beautiful."

Their relationship was first observed publicly in August 2021 when they were seen together in New York. They began discussing each other in interviews early in 2022.

The couple got engaged in October 2023, but their engagement only lasted a year, as they "realized they're at different stages in life," according to an insider.

Despite their breakup, they have another film project on the horizon, Alpha Gang.

For some, working with an ex might seem like a nightmare, but according to sources, both Tatum and Kravitz are eager to collaborate again.

An insider shared, "They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë's focus and passion."
