A woman has stirred up the internet by proposing to her boyfriend, breaking from the traditional norm where men typically propose.

She decided to take the initiative and ask her partner to marry her. Despite the romantic gesture, she's in the minority; a 2017 study by The Knot revealed only 61 out of 12,657 brides were the ones to propose.

The video capturing this unconventional moment has gone viral after being shared online.

In the video, the girlfriend, dressed in a stunning red dress, leads her blindfolded boyfriend to a beautifully arranged table with a view of Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia.

The footage then cuts to her kneeling down to propose, to which her boyfriend happily agrees. She places a ring on his finger before standing up for a heartfelt embrace.

The proposal happened on October 27, and the video was posted on Personalised Proposals & Co's Instagram just a few days after. Since then, the video has gone viral, prompting numerous comments, especially from women, discussing the concept of women proposing.

One comment, which received over 15,000 likes, stated: "I’d rather wrestle a shark in Sydney harbour than get on one knee for a man."

Another female Instagram user commented, "I'd clean the entire house with a Q-Tip before I did that."

A third chimed in, "Do you see that bridge? If you look closely, you can see me jumping off from secondhand embarrassment."

Someone else wrote, "That’s going to be her whole life. Begging him."

However, there were also those who supported the idea of a woman proposing to her partner in a heterosexual relationship, showing that opinions on this matter vary.

Someone argued, "These comments are NOT it. This woman found someone she loves unconditionally and would do anything for, so she proposed. I hope one day you all find someone you are willing to serve and support, and receive that love equally in return. A man's shoulders can only carry so much. They are still human. They have emotions. They need to feel love and be nurtured as well."

Echoing similar sentiments, another person said, "You don’t know their story. How does a woman proposing to her man make any difference in your life? Be gone with all that negativity."

What do you think?
