New research indicates that for the health of your heart, you might want to increase your activity in the bedroom.
While caring for our bodies is essential for everyone, the link between this care and sexual frequency isn't always recognized.
A study has recently shown that men might need to engage in sexual activity frequently to substantially lower their risk of heart disease later in life.
Chinese researchers have concluded that men who have sex more often tend to have a decreased likelihood of developing heart disease.
Sex is good for the body in a whole host of ways
The rationale behind this connection is that sexual activity boosts heart rate, enhances blood flow, and reduces stress, all of which are beneficial for cardiovascular health.
In the Journal of Scientific Reports last December, researchers pointed out that sexual activity should be seen as an indicator of general well-being.
The study authors advised: "Individuals with either very high or very low frequencies of sexual activity should be mindful of their situation and consider seeking medical advice if needed."
Scientists from Qingdao University reviewed multiple studies with 17,243 American adults to explore the impact of sex on heart health and lifespan.
Over an almost nine-year period, they discovered that men having sex less than 12 times annually were at a greater risk for heart disease and premature death.
Conversely, those engaging in sex approximately 103 times a year, or about twice a week, showed a reduced risk. Even a frequency of 52 times per year was found to provide health benefits.
Having sex regularly might be doing more good for your heart than you might think
Dr. Alexis Missick from UK Meds highlighted the numerous health benefits of sex, stating, "Beyond the emotional, intimacy, and love aspects, sex is literally beneficial for your heart." However, don't get too complacent if you're surpassing the suggested frequency because researchers have also examined the potential negative effects of excessive sex.
They define "too much sex" as more than once a day and observed some drawbacks. They explained, "Sexual activity is essentially a type of physical and aerobic exercise, which is often overlooked. While moderate physical activity has well-known benefits, there appears to be a threshold after which the advantages start to wane. Indeed, excessive aerobic exercise might reduce the health benefits seen at moderate levels."
In essence, moderation is key in all things.
