In a significant step forward, Microsoft and the NFL have announced an extension of their technological alliance, bringing generative AI tools powered by Microsoft’s Copilot and Azure AI to enhance both on-field and off-field operations across the league.
At the heart of this collaboration is the upgraded **Sideline Viewing System**, which will deploy over 2,500 customized Surface Copilot tablets — one for every player and coach across all 32 NFL teams. This advanced system, integrated with Copilot’s AI capabilities, enables coaching staff to access real-time game statistics and insights in seconds, replacing time-consuming manual data searches. The tablets will streamline in-game decision-making, offering instant access to critical performance metrics and play-by-play analysis.
Beyond the sidelines, Copilot will play a pivotal role in transforming the NFL’s business and scouting operations. The AI tool will assist in draft analysis, salary cap management, and the development of fan-facing applications, creating a more data-driven and engaging experience for teams and supporters alike. Microsoft’s Azure AI will also expand its footprint in scouting and video analysis, building on the success of a pilot program conducted at this year’s NFL Combine.
The initiative demonstrated Azure AI’s ability to process and analyze vast amounts of video footage, providing teams with deeper insights into player performance and potential.
