How to Increase Internet Speed

Hello!

Slow internet can be incredibly frustrating and wastes valuable time. For instance, platforms like Facebook that once loaded almost instantly now take noticeably longer when your connection is weak.
Many people still rely on mobile data for their computers because it remains affordable and widely available. While there are various ways to share a mobile connection with a PC, this article focuses primarily on improving speeds over a broadband link.
Try the following steps to boost your internet performance—you should notice a tangible improvement.
How to Increase Internet Speed
1. Avoid conflicting signals between devices
Modern wireless routers support dual-band broadcasting on two frequencies: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

To test this, temporarily remove the battery from devices that might be causing interference, then check whether your speed improves. Everyday items like smartphones, wireless speakers, televisions, microwaves, CCTV systems, dimmer switches, and fans can all affect signal quality.
Position your router at least 5–7 feet away from other electronics to minimise interference and enjoy a stronger, faster connection.
2. Try resetting your network/modem
Neighbouring networks can interfere with your modem and reduce available bandwidth. A simple reboot often resolves this issue.

3. Check how many devices are connected to your network
If your Wi-Fi network is unsecured, neighbours or passers-by may connect and consume bandwidth. Set or update a strong password via your router’s admin page to prevent unauthorised access. Changing the password will automatically disconnect unknown users and restore speed to your devices.
4. Try keeping the router in a better location

5. Use a filter to increase speed
If you have a DSL connection without a filter, speeds may suffer. A filter splits the phone line into separate channels for voice and data. Contact your provider to obtain one if you are not already using it.
