HoverAir, a pioneer in innovative drone technology, has launched the Aqua, the world’s first fully waterproof self-flying camera drone.

Designed for aquatic adventures, this groundbreaking device redefines capturing moments on and around water, whether kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, or wakeboarding. With the ability to float, take off, and land on water, paired with advanced AI tracking and a robust 4K camera, the HoverAir Aqua is set to revolutionize watersports videography.

A Drone Built for Water

The HoverAir Aqua is engineered to thrive in wet environments, boasting an IP67 waterproof rating that ensures it can be fully submerged in both freshwater and saltwater. Unlike traditional drones that risk damage near water, the Aqua’s design incorporates magnesium alloy heat sinks, stainless steel motor housings, and anti-corrosive titanium screws for durability. Its neutral buoyancy allows it to float effortlessly, and a self-righting mechanism enables it to flip over for takeoff, even if tossed onto the water’s surface.

Weighing under 249 grams, the Aqua is ultralight, exempting it from FAA registration in the U.S. and earning C0 certification in the EU.

This makes it a hassle-free option for hobbyists and adventurers. With a top tracking speed of 55 km/h (34 mph) and Level 7 wind resistance (up to 33 knots or roughly 61 km/h), the Aqua keeps pace with fast-moving watercraft and remains stable in gusty coastal conditions.

Cinematic 4K Video with Smart Tracking

The Aqua features a flagship-level 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensor, delivering crisp 4K video at up to 100 frames per second for smooth, slow-motion shots. Its custom 7-layer hydrophobic lens, coated with anti-fog technology, ensures clear visuals amidst splashes and glare. Support for 10-bit HLG and H-LOG color profiles offers creators flexibility for post-production, ensuring vibrant, professional-grade footage. The Aqua also captures 12 MP stills, with processing capabilities enhancing photos up to 48 MP.

The drone’s AI-powered tracking eliminates manual piloting. With over 15 automated flight modes, including Snorkel Mode for low-altitude water-adjacent filming and Gimbal Mode for cinematic shots, the Aqua keeps subjects perfectly framed. The included Lighthouse accessory, a wearable waterproof controller, simplifies operation with one-tap commands for takeoff, landing, mode switching, and recall. A Virtual Tether feature ensures the drone returns if it strays beyond a set distance, preventing loss in the waves.

No Phone? No Problem

The Aqua’s 1.6-inch AMOLED display, integrated into the drone, allows live previews and instant playback without a smartphone, ideal for keeping devices dry. With up to 128GB of onboard UFS 2.2 storage, it stores ample footage, perfect for off-grid adventures.

Flight Performance and Battery Life

The Aqua offers up to 23 minutes of flight time per charge, impressive for a compact, waterproof drone. While battery swaps require a dry environment, this duration suits dynamic action shots.

Its ability to take off and land on water eliminates the need for a dry launchpad, enhancing versatility. SmoothCapture 3.0 stabilization ensures steady footage, even in turbulent conditions.

Pricing and Availability

The HoverAir Aqua launched with early bird pricing starting at $999 USD. While the price may seem steep, its waterproof design, advanced tracking, and high-quality imaging make it a premium choice for watersports enthusiasts and content creators. Shipping is expected to begin in December 2025.
