Google Introduces Real-Time Dubbed Translation in Meet, Powered by Gemini AI

Google has launched an innovative real-time dubbed translation feature in Google Meet, leveraging its advanced Gemini AI technology.

During a live demonstration, an English speaker engaged in a seamless conversation with a Spanish speaker. As each participant spoke in their native language, Google Meet’s Gemini-powered system dubbed their speech into the other language in near real-time.
The dubbed audio retained the speakers’ natural vocal characteristics, creating an experience akin to professional dubbing but with their own voices. This capability marks a significant improvement over traditional translation tools, which often produce robotic, monotone outputs.
For now, the feature supports translations between English and Spanish, but Google plans to expand to Italian, German, and Portuguese in the coming weeks.
The rollout targets both consumer and enterprise users, with early testing for Google Workspace business customers expected later this year. Only one participant in a call needs an eligible subscription for the feature to work, making it accessible on the web version of Meet.

Despite these challenges, Google assures users that no meeting data is stored during translation, and the audio isn’t used to train AI models, addressing privacy concerns.

This development positions Google Meet as a strong competitor to platforms like Microsoft Teams, which introduced a similar AI translation feature earlier in 2025. As global communication demands grow, Google’s focus on natural, AI-driven translation could redefine virtual collaboration, though its success will depend on refining accuracy and expanding language support.
