Hollywood has welcomed the long-awaited Tesla Diner & Drive-In, a retro-futuristic venue that merges a Supercharger station with an open-air cinema. This quirky establishment evokes the whimsical dining spot where the Jetson family might grab a bite — minus the flying cars, replaced instead by Tesla electric vehicles with autopilot.

Located at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard, the complex features V4 Supercharger stations, a classic American menu with burgers and hot dogs, a robot named Optimus serving guests, Tesla-branded merchandise, and two 45-foot LED screens for movie screenings. The audio syncs seamlessly with speakers inside Tesla vehicles, enhancing the drive-in experience.

Designed to appeal beyond Tesla owners, the diner aims to become a Hollywood tourist hotspot. Its two-story structure, crafted by Stantec, blends 1950s nostalgia with futuristic flair, complete with a rooftop Skypad and ground-level seating. Elon Musk has already hinted at global expansion, stating, “If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as at Supercharger sites on long-distance routes.” The venue opened 24/7 on July 21, 2025, drawing early crowds with its unique offerings.

However, the reality doesn’t quite match the hype. While the concept looked impressive in renderings, the executed design feels underwhelming in person — less polished than the glossy projections promised. Still, with 80 Supercharger stalls and a nod to Hollywood’s cinematic heritage, it’s an ambitious experiment that could redefine EV charging — or simply remain a curious footnote.
