Patreon to Introduce 10% Fee for New Accounts Starting August 4

Patreon is set to implement a new 10% commission fee for all new accounts starting August 4, as outlined in its latest update.

Currently, the platform charges either 8% or 12% depending on the chosen plan, but this change will standardize the rate for new creators. Existing accounts and those registered before the deadline will remain unaffected, preserving their current fee structures.

The last price adjustment occurred six years ago, and since then, Patreon has evolved significantly. Beyond traditional donations, the platform now offers video hosting, live streaming, memberships, digital goods sales, and gift subscriptions — providing a robust foundation for creators exploring direct monetization.

The 10% fee is a reasonable trade-off for the diverse features available, catering well to emerging creators. However, for larger creators relying on Patreon as their primary revenue stream, this increase could have a noticeable impact, potentially prompting a reassessment of their financial strategies.
