The hottest topic in recent weeks revolves around the internal shake-up at Paramount, now under Skydance’s ownership, where David Ellison’s auditors are busy trimming the fat.

In a bold move to optimize studio spending, Paramount is sacrificing not just minor projects but even its sacred cows. The first casualty is the *Dexter* franchise, which has sprawled aimlessly in recent years.

While fans are thrilled with the new season featuring Michael C. Hall, and the prequel *Dexter: Original Sin* performed decently on Showtime, the old Paramount leadership aimed to juggle both series with parallel seasons.

The new regime, however, has slammed the brakes on this financial sprawl, reportedly scrapping the previously announced second season of *Original Sin*.

It’s hard to imagine anyone in their right mind canceling a series that brought in revenue, suggesting that the asset audit may have revealed a harsh truth: the *Dexter* franchise can’t sustain expansion. With showrunner Clyde Phillips stretched thin, the resources to support multiple projects may simply be lacking. Despite fan enthusiasm, the decision hints that there’s room for only one *Dexter* — experimenting with new spin-offs feels too risky for a media business already on shaky ground.
