David Ellison’s appetite for bold moves in Hollywood seems insatiable. Barely having finalized the merger between his Skydance Media and Paramount, Ellison is already eyeing another high-profile deal.
Sources indicate that Paramount is in advanced talks with Legendary Entertainment to secure a global distribution agreement for the latter’s upcoming films.
Under the proposed deal, Paramount would handle worldwide distribution (excluding China, which operates its own ecosystem) and co-finance Legendary’s new projects.
This isn’t about Paramount swallowing Legendary whole — such a move would raise questions about who’d come out on top in that battle. Instead, Paramount’s revitalized leadership is aggressively courting top-tier production companies to bolster its portfolio.
Legendary’s long-standing partnership with Sony officially ended in December, leaving the creators of *Dune* in search of a new ally.
While a reunion with Warner Bros. Discovery, a historically fruitful partner, would seem ideal, David Zaslav’s company is grappling with its own challenges, making it ill-equipped to take on another major deal.
This opens the door for Paramount to swoop in and secure a lucrative contract.

The potential partnership could be a game-changer for Paramount, which has been navigating shaky financial waters. Aligning with Legendary, known for its blockbuster hits, would not only enhance Paramount’s content pipeline but also provide a much-needed boost to its bottom line. As Hollywood’s power players continue to realign, this deal signals Paramount’s ambition to cement its place at the industry’s forefront.
