Jennifer Aniston's initial and final exchange with Angelina Jolie before her breakup with Brad Pitt has come to light again, coinciding with the official divorce settlement of the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" actors.
The legal dispute between Pitt and Jolie, which lasted over eight years, was finalized on December 30, right before the New Year.
This settlement marks the end of a prolonged legal battle that started when Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016, due to irreconcilable differences, just two years after their marriage.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were together for 12 years before they filed for divorce
The couple had been together for a total of 12 years and had six children when Jolie initiated divorce proceedings.
Before his relationship with Jolie, Pitt was married to "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston, whom he met through his manager.
Pitt and Aniston, affectionately dubbed "Paniston," kept their romance under wraps before getting married in 2000 while Aniston was still starring in "Friends."
Three years later, Pitt met Jolie on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," where they played spouses; this was during his marriage to Aniston.
Their separation came in 2005, and by January 2006, the surnames of Jolie's children had been changed to Jolie-Pitt.
In 2005, Aniston shared with Vanity Fair an account of encountering Jolie at the Warner Bros. Studios lot in California while she was working on "Friends."
Aniston and Pitt divorced in 2005
In the interview, she remembered saying, "I pulled over and introduced myself. I said, 'Brad is so excited about working with you. I hope you guys have a really good time!'"
Reflecting on their split, Aniston said she 'chose to believe' that her marriage to Pitt ended for reasons other than another woman.
When she first saw photos of Jolie and Pitt together, she remarked, "The world was shocked, and I was shocked. I can't say it was one of the highlights of my year. Who would deal with that and say, 'Isn't that sweet! That looks like fun!?' But s*** happens. You joke and say, 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger'."
Now, Angelina Jolie's attorney, James Simon from Hersh Mannis, has stated to CNN that Jolie is 'relieved' about the settlement with Pitt.
Jolie and Pitt share six children together
"More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt," Mannis stated. "She and the children vacated all the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since then she has been focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one segment of an extended process that began eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved that this particular phase is over."
Jolie sought divorce following a 2016 incident where she alleged Pitt physically assaulted her and verbally abused their children on a private jet. The FBI confirmed at the time that Pitt was neither arrested nor charged with any crimes.
