Figure, a company advancing humanoid robotics, has showcased impressive progress with its latest model, Figure 02. In a recent demonstration, the robot successfully performed a complex task: autonomously folding laundry.
A video released by the company highlights Figure 02 neatly folding towels and placing them into a basket, marking a significant step forward in robotic dexterity and practical application.
Folding laundry is no small feat for robots. It requires advanced motor skills, spatial awareness, and adaptability to handle soft, deformable objects — challenges that have long stumped robotic systems. Figure 02’s ability to execute this task underscores the rapid advancements in humanoid robotics, bringing them closer to real-world utility in homes and workplaces.
However, despite these technological strides, the high cost of humanoid robots remains a major barrier to widespread adoption. Figure 02 carries a price tag of approximately $59,000 USD.
For those unable to purchase outright, the robot is also available through leasing or installment plans, with monthly payments of around $1,385 USD and a $1,000 USD deposit. These costs make Figure 02 a significant investment, particularly when compared to the affordability of human labor for similar tasks.
The first deliveries of Figure 02 are slated for fall 2025, with initial shipments prioritized for 30 customers in the United States. While this marks an exciting milestone for Figure and its clients, the steep price point suggests that humanoid robots like Figure 02 are still far from being a cost-competitive alternative to human workers in most settings.
