Hello!
China has swiftly countered Donald Trump's 145% tariff on Chinese goods with a sharp escalation, raising its own tariffs on U.S. imports to 125% as of April 12, 2025.
This move signals a deepening of the trade war, with no resolution in sight.
Since Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025, his administration has aggressively pursued tariffs, culminating in the "Liberation Day" announcement on April 2, where sweeping tariffs were imposed globally, hitting China particularly hard.
Initially facing a 54% tariff, China saw the rate soar to 145% after a series of retaliatory actions, including its own tariff hikes to 84% and then 125%.
Beijing has called Trump’s policies “unilateral bullying,” stating it will “fight to the end,” while the U.S.-China trade conflict continues to threaten global economic stability.
"Hopefully soon, China will understand that exploiting the U.S.A. and other nations is no longer viable or tolerable," Trump posted on Truth Social.
China's commerce ministry urged the U.S. to "step back significantly to rectify its errors" and "return to a path of mutual respect." On April 11, 2025, the Trump administration appeared to soften its stance, announcing exemptions for smartphones, computers, and certain other products, including Chinese goods, from the increased tariffs.
However, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick clarified on April 13 during an ABC News interview that these exemptions might be temporary, hinting at a potential "semiconductor tariff" in the near future. In retaliation, China imposed a 125% tariff on U.S.-made goods and banned its airlines from fulfilling jet orders with Boeing, halting all existing orders and prohibiting the purchase of Boeing aircraft parts.
According to The Telegraph, the Chinese government is collaborating with airlines leasing Boeing jets to mitigate potential cost increases.

As global tariffs continue to sow disruption worldwide, Trump shows no signs of backing down from his policies.
On Truth Social, the President declared: "The Golden Age of America, encompassing the forthcoming Tax and Regulation Cuts — many of which were recently greenlit by the House and Senate — will bring more and higher-paying jobs, boost domestic manufacturing, and ensure fair treatment from other nations, especially China, mirroring their approach toward us. Ultimately, our nation will emerge larger, more prosperous, and more powerful than ever.
We will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
