Anthropic Just Became the Fastest-Growing Software Business in History

According to the latest reports, Anthropic has reached an annualized revenue run rate of approximately $44–45 billion. This puts the company ahead of OpenAI and makes it one of the fastest-scaling enterprise software businesses ever created.

For scale: Salesforce, a SaaS giant with decades of history, reported roughly $38 billion in revenue for FY2025. Anthropic appears to have surpassed that mark in a matter of months.

The Explosive Growth Trajectory

Anthropic Just Became the Fastest-Growing Software Business in HistoryThe numbers are staggering:

  • End of 2022 → ~$10 million ARR;
  • January 2025 → ~$1 billion ARR;
  • Early 2026 → ~$14 billion ARR;
  • May 2026 → ~$44–45 billion ARR.

In less than a year, Anthropic reportedly scaled from a ~$2.5 billion run rate to nearly $45 billion. The company doubled its number of enterprise customers paying $1 million+ per year — from around 500 to over 1,000 — in just a couple of months. More than 80% of its revenue now comes from enterprise contracts.

The Monetization Strategy That Worked

Anthropic Just Became the Fastest-Growing Software Business in HistoryWhile much of the industry chased consumer hype and viral consumer products, Anthropic focused relentlessly on enterprise adoption.

They went after:

  • Large codebases;
  • Internal development tools;
  • Mission-critical workflows.

These are not casual users. These are organizations willing to pay millions per year because Claude has become essential infrastructure.

Fewer users. Dramatically higher spend per customer. Much stronger economics.

The New Reality for AI Companies

Anthropic Just Became the Fastest-Growing Software Business in HistoryYes, compute costs remain enormous. But when revenue grows at this velocity, traditional SaaS math begins to break down in a good way. The margin concerns that dominated discussions a year ago are being rapidly overtaken by raw top-line momentum.

If this trajectory continues, the biggest winners of the AI era won’t be the flashy consumer apps. They will be the companies that own the foundational AI layer on which everything else is built.

Right now, that layer increasingly looks like ClaudeOS.

Anthropic didn’t just build a better model.
They built the fastest-growing enterprise software company the world has ever seen.
