Old YouTube Studio Apps Lose Support—Check Version 24.31.6 Now
YouTube Studio mobile versions 24.31.6 and older became unsupported on September 9, 2026. YouTube’s official notice for the September 9 cutoff tells affected creators to download the latest release from Google Play or Apple’s App Store to continue using the app.
The cutoff concerns the mobile management app, not the public availability of a creator’s videos. A September 10 creator-industry report on the change says an obsolete installation may disrupt access to Analytics, comments and upload management while published videos remain online.
Version 24.31.6 is outside the support boundary
Version 24.31.6 is unsupported, not the minimum acceptable release. An installation displaying 24.31.6 or an earlier version falls within the affected group and must be updated to continue using the mobile app under YouTube’s current requirements.
“Unsupported” does not establish exactly what every creator will see. The notice does not identify a universal error message, state that every old installation will stop opening at the same moment or offer a grace period. An obsolete copy that still reaches part of the dashboard therefore remains outside the stated support boundary.
The change also should not be confused with a channel sanction or the removal of existing uploads. If viewers can still watch a video but its owner cannot reach mobile management tools, the installed Studio version is one of the first details worth checking.
Check every mobile installation in one minute
Open the phone or tablet’s application details and locate the complete version number for YouTube Studio. If it reads 24.31.6 or lower, that installation needs an update. Compare the full number rather than assuming the version cited in the notice is still supported.
If the operating system does not show the version clearly, open YouTube Studio’s listing in the device’s official app store. An available Update button provides a direct path to the current release offered for that device. The absence of that button does not by itself prove an old build is supported; it may mean the store has no newer compatible release ready for that device or account.
Repeat the check on secondary phones and tablets used for production, travel or moderation. Updating one handset does not update a separate installation elsewhere, even when both devices use the same Google account.
Install the newest release offered by the official store
On Android, open Google Play, select the profile picture, choose Manage apps & device, and then open Updates available. Google’s Android update instructions say to locate the individual app and tap Update; they also note that a device restart may sometimes be required.
On an iPhone or iPad, open the App Store account view and install the YouTube Studio update if one is offered. The target is the latest official-store release available to the device, not a replacement version guessed from the 24.31.6 cutoff.
If the store will not offer a compatible update, treat that as a separate device or operating-system compatibility issue. YouTube’s cutoff notice does not list which older hardware or system releases can run the current app. Until that is resolved, another compatible device or the web version of Studio may preserve access to channel-management work.
Run a short continuity test after the update
A successful installation shows that the application package changed, but it does not establish that the correct account and all essential workflows are ready. The following one-minute check is an editorial recommendation for detecting sign-in, channel-selection or loading problems before a moderation or publishing session.
- Login and channel: reopen Studio and confirm that the expected Google account and YouTube channel are selected, especially if the account manages more than one channel.
- Analytics: open Analytics and verify that channel data loads without a persistent error. This checks access only; a single refresh is not a meaningful performance assessment.
- Comments: open the comments area and confirm that an existing thread loads. There is no need to publish a test response.
- Video management: open a recent upload and confirm that its details and editing controls appear. If a private test upload already exists, a reversible description edit can also verify that saving works.
If one check fails, confirm the selected account and network connection, close and reopen the app, and restart the device if necessary. Avoid making an unnecessary change to a public video. A problem limited to one device points more narrowly to its installation, compatibility or account state than to the published channel itself.
What YouTube has not specified
The confirmed rule is limited but clear: Studio mobile versions 24.31.6 and below are unsupported, and affected creators need the latest store release to continue using the app. YouTube has not published a catalogue of failure modes for obsolete builds or guaranteed identical behavior across devices.
Creators may therefore encounter different symptoms, from inaccessible management screens to an installation that still opens but is no longer supported. The practical status of each setup depends on two observable results: whether its official store supplies a current compatible release and whether login, Analytics, comments and video controls work after that release is installed.
