Eightfold Opens Its AI Interviewer to Job Seekers—Your Data Lasts 30 Days

Eightfold AI opened its AI Interviewer to job seekers for a free practice session on September 7, 2026, through its inaugural AI Career Day. HRTechEdge’s coverage of the launch corroborates that participants received personalized feedback without needing an active application, job requisition or résumé.
The exercise was brief and separate from recruitment. Eightfold’s September 7 release describes a five-to-ten-minute sample screening interview for people aged 18 or older and states that interview data is not shared with employers, used in hiring decisions or used to train its models; the data is deleted within 30 days.
What candidates can learn from the practice session

The experience gives candidates a chance to answer an automated interviewer and receive feedback without entering a selection process. Its most defensible use is rehearsal: noticing whether an answer explains the situation, the candidate’s contribution and the result clearly enough for another party to follow.
The absence of a résumé, vacancy and application also limits what the feedback can establish. The system is not comparing the participant’s complete work history with the requirements of a particular role, and its comments should not be read as a prediction that an employer will advance or reject that person.
Eightfold characterizes the output as practical, constructive and personalized, but the launch materials do not provide an independent evaluation of its accuracy or evidence that following the feedback improves later interview outcomes. Candidates can treat it as another perspective on how they communicate, not as a validated assessment of employability.
Practice feedback is not an employer evaluation

AI Career Day uses technology that Eightfold also offers for enterprise recruiting, but the public exercise has a different purpose. It does not create a job application, submit the participant for an opening or deliver an employer’s hiring decision.
That distinction applies to both the conversation and its output. A prompt to make an answer more specific is practice guidance generated within the event; it is not a recruiter’s judgment, a candidate ranking or confirmation that the participant meets a role’s requirements.
The event-specific privacy terms should also remain separate from the conditions governing an interview initiated by an employer. A hiring organization may collect information for different purposes, involve different recipients and apply a different retention schedule. Candidates invited to a real AI-led interview should therefore read the notice attached to that process rather than assume the Career Day protections automatically carry over.
What “deleted within 30 days” does—and does not—promise

The stated period is an outer limit for interview data, not a promise that every submission will remain available for the entire window. “Within” permits earlier deletion, so participants should not regard the service as permanent storage for either their answers or the resulting feedback.
The wording also identifies a particular category of information. It does not, by itself, establish that registration details, contact information or every technical record connected with the session follows the same schedule. The participant notice presented during registration is the relevant place to check how those categories are defined and handled.
Retention, sharing and permitted use are separate issues. The published conditions say the interview data will not go to employers, influence hiring decisions or train Eightfold’s models, but the service still has to process submitted material to conduct the conversation and produce feedback. Candidates should read the notice for the legal basis, privacy contacts and rights that apply to that processing.
The live session has ended, but the checklist still matters
The transactional route is no longer available: the official AI Career Day page now thanks participants and says Eightfold may run the experience again, rather than displaying the earlier start form. Eightfold has not published a reopening date or committed to permanent public access.
If the practice interview returns, candidates can make a short pre-session check before submitting information:
- Availability: confirm that the official page has an active start control and current terms, rather than relying on an older announcement or third-party link.
- Consent: read the participant notice before accepting it, paying particular attention to the definition of interview data and any separate treatment of registration or contact details.
- Purpose: verify that the session is still labeled as practice and remains unconnected to an employer, vacancy or application.
- Retention and use: check whether the active notice preserves the deletion window and the exclusions covering employer sharing, hiring decisions and model training.
- Access needs: review the browser and device permissions actually requested, and confirm that the live experience works with any accommodation or assistive technology required.
- Practice goal: choose one or two observable aims, such as explaining a result concisely or giving a complete example, instead of treating the generated feedback as an employment verdict.
- Personal record: save useful observations in personal notes if the terms permit it, because the deletion commitment makes the service unsuitable as a lasting archive.
The confirmed event is therefore over, even though its privacy conditions remain relevant to people assessing whether to participate if access returns. Eightfold has not released participation totals, an independent measure of feedback quality or a timetable for another public session.
