Delete Google My Activity, Then Clear Chrome History

Deleting everything shown in Google My Activity can leave your Chrome browsing history intact: Google’s activity deletion instructions explicitly warn that activity may remain in your browser. To remove the account record, open My Activity in the intended Google Account and choose Delete, All time, Next, then Delete.

To remove visited pages from Chrome’s History page, clear Chrome’s Browsing history separately and choose All time. The Chrome browsing data guide distinguishes browser data from searches and other activity saved through Google services. If Chrome history is saved to your Google Account, deleting that saved browser data can also remove it from other signed-in devices; a separate local profile still needs checking.

Delete activity saved in the Google Account

Start by checking the account shown in My Activity. A personal account and a work account keep separate activity, so deleting from one does not clear the other. The All time command applies to activity available through My Activity for the selected account; it is not a command to erase every file, location record, or browser record associated with you.

Go to myactivity.google.com and confirm that the intended Google Account is selected.
Choose Delete above the activity list, then choose All time.
Review the confirmation screens, select Next, and confirm Delete.

If you want a narrower deletion, My Activity also lets you find entries by date or product and delete individual items or filtered results. That leaves anything outside the selection in place. A Chrome visit may appear as account activity when it has been saved there, but deleting that entry does not establish that the browser’s own History page has been cleared. If deleted account activity still appears on an offline device, reconnect it before judging the result.

Clear Chrome history on each platform

Choose All time when you want to remove Chrome’s available browsing history rather than only recent visits. Check that Browsing history is selected before confirming: the same dialog can include cookies, cached files, form entries, and other categories. Clearing history removes visited addresses from the History page and related address bar predictions.

Computer: In Chrome, open the three-dot More menu and select Delete browsing data. Set the time range to All time, select Browsing history, inspect the other selected categories, then select Delete data.
Android: Tap More beside the address bar, then Delete browsing data. Change the duration to All time. Open More options to check the selected data types, including Browsing history, and tap Delete data. On Android, deleting browsing history can also close open tabs.
iPhone or iPad: Tap More, then Delete Browsing Data. Set Time Range to All time, open Browsing Data to select the types you want, tap Confirm, then tap Delete Browsing Data.

These actions address Chrome data in the profile you are using. When that history is saved to your Google Account, deleting it while signed in can remove the saved data from other devices using that account. Do not assume it reaches a different Chrome profile, an unsigned-in device, or another browser. Check those places individually if you have used them.

Leave passwords and form entries selected only if you want them gone

Before the final browser confirmation, inspect every checked category. Browsing history does not require you to erase cookies, which can affect website sessions, or Autofill form data, which can include saved addresses and payment details. Cached images and files are another separate choice. Clearing those categories may be useful for a different purpose, but it adds consequences to a history deletion.

Password controls also vary by platform. Android’s Chrome data categories can include saved passwords; on computer and iPhone, passwords and passkeys are handled through Google Password Manager. If your aim is only to remove visited pages, leave password and Autofill options alone. On a computer, deleting Download history removes Chrome’s list of downloads, not files already saved to the device.

Control what gets saved after deletion

Deleting old entries does not stop eligible new activity from being saved to your account. The My Activity overview lists automatic deletion choices for eligible activity older than 3, 18, or 36 months. To set one, open your Google Account’s Data & privacy page, choose the relevant setting under History settings, open Auto-delete, select a retention period, and confirm.

Auto-delete is a retention setting, so it is distinct from the immediate All time deletion. Turning a history setting off changes future saving; Google also offers a separate Turn off and delete activity choice when you want to address existing records. Neither account setting substitutes for clearing Chrome’s browser history. Review the setting you choose if you use several Google services, since the data shown in My Activity depends on account settings and the service involved.

Check the records that the two deletions may miss

My Activity is not a complete inventory of Google content. If Maps Timeline is turned on, its location records have separate controls. The Other activity area can point to activity managed elsewhere, while emails, documents, and photos are managed in Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos. Clearing My Activity or Chrome history does not delete those files and messages.

For a final check, reopen My Activity in every Google Account you intended to clear. Then inspect Chrome History in every relevant profile on your computer, Android device, iPhone, or iPad. Let devices that were offline reconnect, and check local profiles even if saved Chrome history has disappeared from other signed-in devices. If a visit remains, confirm the profile and time range before repeating the browser deletion. The two results to verify are separate: the intended entries are absent from My Activity, and the intended visits are absent from Chrome History wherever they were stored.
