WhatsApp is set to roll out an innovative AI-powered feature that will summarize unread messages in both individual and group chats, enhancing user convenience.
Currently, this functionality is available to a limited number of beta testers and is expected to be gradually introduced to all users in the coming weeks.
The feature, powered by Meta AI, operates through a system called Private Processing, which ensures that all message data is handled in a secure, isolated cloud environment. WhatsApp claims that the summaries are generated without storing or linking any message content to users, with the data reportedly deleted immediately after processing. This approach aims to maintain privacy while leveraging AI to provide quick recaps of conversations.
The summarization tool will be versatile, supporting both one-on-one chats and busy group conversations. Users will see a “Summarize with Meta AI” button when they have multiple unread messages, allowing them to catch up efficiently without scrolling through lengthy threads. The feature is optional, and it will be disabled in chats where Advanced Chat Privacy is enabled, respecting users’ preferences for enhanced security.
