As ChatGPT’s popularity continues to soar, the nature of user queries is shifting. Software development still tops the list, accounting for 29% of all prompts, though this represents a noticeable drop from 44% a year ago.

Early adopters, particularly developers, were among the first to embrace ChatGPT for coding and automation tasks. The tool assists with writing and reviewing code, simplifying complex projects, and even debugging programs, cementing its role in the tech community.

History and society queries now rank second, making up 15% of prompts, followed closely by topics related to artificial intelligence and machine learning. However, the fastest-growing category by far is economics, finance, and taxes, which has seen its share surge more than threefold in the past year. Increasing numbers of users are turning to ChatGPT for insights on stock markets, macroeconomic trends, and tax advice, reflecting a broadening interest in financial guidance.
