The ex-heavyweight champ revealed his choice to step away from the ring - once more - via an Instagram post on the morning of January 13th.
This announcement follows his defeat in the rematch against Aleksandr Usyk last month. Fury is currently 36 years old.
In his post, 'The Gypsy King' simply said:
Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.
- Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury is widely regarded as one of the most iconic heavyweight champions in the annals of boxing, with many, including the legendary Mike Tyson, acclaiming him as a true legend in the sport.
Tyson Fury's fame reached new heights in 2015 when he stunned the boxing world by dethroning the long-reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko. This victory solidified his position as the premier heavyweight boxer globally. However, personal challenges led him to vacate his titles.
After an almost three-year hiatus, Fury staged a spectacular return to boxing in 2018, sparking an epic rivalry with Deontay Wilder. Their series of fights began with a controversial draw in 2018, but Fury would later assert his dominance by securing a TKO victory in their 2020 rematch and a knockout in their 2021 clash.
In recent days, speculation about a potential blockbuster fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua has been rampant, with boxing insiders like Ricky Hatton and Frank Smith offering their insights. However, it appears that Fury has now put those rumors to bed with his announcement of retirement.
Fury previously retired in 2013, 2017 and 2022. Will this one last?
