Former President Donald Trump has revealed plans for an exclusive dinner for holders of the TRUMP memecoin, a cryptocurrency launched by his team in January. The announcement was shared via a promotional image posted on his Truth Social platform, marking his first public comment on the event.
The private dinner is scheduled for May 22 at the Trump National Club in Washington, D.C. According to the project’s website, invitations will be extended to the top 220 holders of the TRUMP token. To participate, attendees must authenticate their ownership through a cryptocurrency wallet.
Additionally, the top 25 holders will receive exclusive access to a VIP meeting with Trump and a guided tour, further incentivizing significant investment in the token.
Rumors of the event first surfaced in late April, but Trump’s recent confirmation has drawn significant attention. The announcement has also sparked controversy, with Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff raising concerns.
In a letter to the Office of Government Ethics, they argued that the dinner could pose a “corruption risk” and resemble a “pay-to-play” scheme, where access to political influence is exchanged for financial contributions.
