The attack began when a fraudster convinced her to download a game from Steam, which initially appeared safe. However, the scam involved a compromised server that granted hackers full access to her device and crypto wallets.
Here’s how the scheme works:
- A hacker infiltrates a Discord community, observing members and building trust over time.
- They identify users with valuable crypto or NFT holdings.
- The hacker suggests playing a game together, sharing a malicious link.
- Once the link is clicked, the hacker gains access to the victim’s wallets, personal data, and assets.
This incident highlights the growing risks of social engineering in online communities, urging users to exercise caution with unsolicited links and verify the security of shared content.
