Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a significant restructuring of Meta’s AI division, introducing the Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), a new group dedicated to developing “superintelligence”— systems capable of performing tasks at or above human levels. Leading MSL will be Alexander Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, whom Zuckerberg hailed as “the most impressive founder of his generation.” Joining Wang in leadership is Nat Friedman, ex-CEO of GitHub, who will collaborate closely with Wang to steer the initiative.

Meta plans to invest “hundreds of billions of dollars” in AI projects over the coming years. The new division will consolidate existing teams focused on large language models, AI products, and foundational research from FAIR (Fundamental AI Research).

In a bold talent acquisition push, Meta has recruited 11 top developers from competitors including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Reports suggest Zuckerberg personally courted many of these experts, hosting negotiations at his homes in Palo Alto and Lake Tahoe. Compensation packages for the new hires include stock options, with some deals reportedly reaching tens of millions of dollars. This aggressive strategy signals Meta’s intent to dominate the AI landscape with its superintelligence ambitions.
