Blending the company’s expertise in motorcycles and robotics, this four-legged marvel promises to redefine off-road mobility. While still in the conceptual phase, Corleo offers a bold vision of what personal transportation might look like by 2050.
A Sci-Fi Vision Brought to Life
Corleo isn’t your typical vehicle. Designed to mimic the movements of a horse or mountain goat, it features four articulated legs equipped with slip-resistant, rubber-coated hooves that adapt to rugged terrains—think grasslands, rocky slopes, or rubble fields.
Unlike wheeled vehicles, Corleo’s biomimetic design allows it to step over obstacles, climb steep inclines, and even leap across small gaps, as depicted in Kawasaki’s striking CGI promotional video.
The robot is powered by a 150cc hydrogen engine, a nod to Kawasaki’s push for sustainable energy.
This engine generates electricity to drive the motors in each leg, producing only water vapor as a byproduct—making Corleo an eco-friendly alternative to traditional off-road vehicles.
Hydrogen tanks are strategically placed in the rear for optimal weight distribution, while a motorcycle-style dashboard displays critical data like hydrogen levels, navigation routes, and the rider’s center of gravity.
Rider-Centric Control and AI Integration
What sets Corleo apart is its intuitive control system. Riders steer by shifting their weight on handlebars and stirrups, much like guiding a real horse.

The full-scale model on display could only perform basic movements, far from the dynamic galloping shown in the concept video.
The company acknowledges that significant technological advancements are needed, particularly in battery efficiency and hydrogen power, to make Corleo a reality. Their target? A fully functional version by 2050.
This long timeline hasn’t dampened enthusiasm. Corleo reflects Kawasaki’s ambitious pivot toward robotics, building on decades of innovation since the company established its robotics division in 1989. It also taps into a growing interest in rideable quadrupeds, with companies like XPeng exploring similar concepts for smaller-scale applications.

Skeptics, however, question its feasibility. Integrating robotic legs, AI, and hydrogen power into a scalable, cost-effective package is no small feat.
