Netflix is sparing no expense, with insiders revealing that the streaming giant has splashed out a staggering $221 million on the fourth season of *The Witcher* - equating to roughly $27 million per episode.
For context, the third season cost $175 million, while the second came in at $176.3 million.
Across the entire franchise based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, Netflix’s spending is nearing a billion dollars, though these figures are preliminary. The budget for the fifth and final season remains unclear, and with the risk of another failed spin-off looming, costs could climb even higher.

Higher budgets, however, don’t seem to be winning over the audience. Season 4 is poised to face significant fan backlash, largely due to the recasting of the lead role. Henry Cavill’s departure has paved the way for Liam Hemsworth to step into the boots of Geralt of Rivia, a move that has already sparked discontent among viewers.
Adding fuel to the fire, insiders claim the showrunners are once again straying from Sapkowski’s canonical storylines, granting their progressive writers even more creative freedom. It’s hard to predict the outcome, but the early signs suggest it might not be pretty.
