California is making a bold move to revitalize its entertainment industry, offering $256 million in tax incentives to support TV series filmed within the state. Following recent strikes and wildfires that have rocked the Golden State, this new program aims to breathe life back into local production.
A total of 22 projects will benefit, including Apple TV+’s upcoming series “Studio.” The initiative is expected to generate $1.1 billion in economic activity, creating jobs for 6,500 actors and crew members, as well as nearly 50,000 background performers. Most filming will naturally take place in Los Angeles.
The appeal of the program is evident, with applications for the incentives surging nearly 400%. The total support package has been boosted to $750 million, and the eligible project list now includes sitcoms and animated series, broadening the program’s reach. Additionally, special incentives are offered to shows relocating to California, such as Prime Video’s hits “Ballard” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” which have shifted their production bases to the state.
