Tesla Drivers Say New Self-Driving Update Is Repeatedly Running Red Lights

Hello!

In 2026, Tesla drivers continue to report that the latest version of the company’s “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) software is causing vehicles to run red lights, raising fresh concerns among safety advocates and regulators.

User Reports and Real-World Incidents

Tesla Drivers Say New Self-Driving Update Is Repeatedly Running Red Lights“Thankfully I stopped it before it ran the light,” wrote one Reddit user in a thread where multiple Tesla owners described identical experiences. “But hopefully Tesla is aware their software is at a very dangerous level right now.”

Another driver added: “I’ve also had that happen once or twice at below 30 mph. Having trust issues because of it, not gonna lie.”

A YouTuber posted video footage that clearly captured the same red-light issue highlighted by Redditors. While driving through downtown Newark, New Jersey, the driver can be heard exclaiming, “Don’t do that! That’s a red light,” as the vehicle attempted to proceed through an intersection against a red signal.

Regulatory Scrutiny and Safety Concerns

Tesla remains under federal investigation for crashes involving its driver-assistance systems, at least 13 of which have been fatal. Regulators have already criticized the company for insufficient corrective action and have raised serious questions about whether Musk and other executives overstated the true capabilities of its autonomous technology.

The situation is further complicated by Tesla’s ongoing pivot toward robotaxis, a strategy that has itself encountered crashes, software glitches, and public resistance from pedestrians.

The Path Forward

A software update may eventually address the red-light problem. In the meantime, there is one low-cost step Elon Musk could take immediately: stop marketing the current driver-assistance software as “Full Self-Driving” until the system genuinely earns that name.
