Prefect is a Python workflow orchestrator for data, machine learning, and agent jobs. You write a flow as a normal function, add a decorator, and Prefect handles state, retries, logs, and schedules. The open-source server is free to self-host. Prefect Cloud is the managed control plane: deployments, work pools, automations, and a run timeline. Flows run on your Kubernetes, ECS, or VPC, or on Prefect Serverless. Hobby is free for 2 users, 5 deployments, and 500 serverless minutes. Starter is $100 a month. Team is $100 per user with a 4-user floor. Enterprise adds SSO, RBAC, and PrivateLink. Horizon is a separate managed MCP layer for agents, not the orchestrator itself.
