But all of that was just the surface. They batch transactions and post them to Ethereum, but the actual execution and ordering happen on servers they fully control.\u003C/li>\n\t\u003Cli>A huge number of “enterprise blockchains” and permissioned chains are simply private databases with fancy branding.\u003C/li>\n\t\u003Cli>Even some of the most hyped projects of 2021–2025 were, at their core, centralized systems that occasionally wrote a few lines of data to a public chain.\u003C/li>\n\u003C/ul>\n\n\u003Cp>This isn’t decentralization. \u003Cstrong> \u003Cbr />\nThis is theater.\u003C/strong>\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>And the industry spent years pretending otherwise, because the word “blockchain” became a magic marketing spell that allowed teams to raise hundreds of millions while delivering almost nothing decentralized.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Chr />\n\u003Ch4>\u003Cstrong>Why This Matters Now\u003C/strong>\u003C/h4>\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>\u003Cpicture>\u003Csource srcset=\"https://cdn.quasa.io/photos/0001/image-7-a366fa.webp\" type=\"image/webp\">\u003Cimg alt=\"Part 7. 95% of “Blockchains” Are Not Blockchains At All — They’re Centralized Databases in Disguise\" class=\"image-align-left\" height=\"372\" src=\"https://cdn.quasa.io/photos/0001/image-7-a366fa.jpg\" width=\"250\" />\u003C/picture>\u003C/strong>\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>In previous parts we talked about the mass death of projects and how 96% of them will not survive. We stayed on decentralized exchanges. We burned tokens. Crypto is no exception.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>When we started this series, there were \u003Cstrong>8,265 crypto coins\u003C/strong> on the market.  \u003Cbr />\nBy the time this article was written, only \u003Cstrong>8,122\u003C/strong> remained.  \u003Cbr />\nAnd while you’re reading these lines, the number keeps dropping.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>In just the last two weeks, \u003Cstrong>143 worthless projects\u003C/strong> have been permanently erased.  \u003Cbr />\nMost of them were either useless or outright fraudulent. They did what they came to do — extracted money from people — and then quietly disappeared.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>For more than a decade, the number of new projects consistently exceeded the number of those that died. Now the situation has reversed.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>Some might say this is normal — like any boom cycle. They’ll bring up the dotcom bubble or the current AI hype, claiming that a lot of “foam” always appears during such periods and eventually pops.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>But this comparison doesn’t hold here.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>In crypto, it wasn’t governments, corporations, or venture funds that took the biggest hit.  \u003Cbr />\nIt was ordinary people. People who believed in the idea of decentralization. People who put in their savings because they were sold a dream.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>They were systematically deceived.  \u003Cbr />\nThey were used.  \u003Cbr />\nThey were cynically exploited by the most unscrupulous players in the industry — those who deliberately pushed false narratives, bought influence, and drained retail investors dry.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>Now the resource of trust has been exhausted.\u003C/p>\n\n\u003Cp>Retail participants are either financially ruined or have completely lost faith in the so-called “decentralized” dream.
