Avoid describing it as a “link in the caption” if the viewer must copy the address manually or navigate somewhere else.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>For a requested-DM workflow, the response should identify the product, provide the purchasing destination and state the commission relationship. A free product, a flat sponsorship fee and a sales commission are different material connections; disclose each connection that could affect how viewers evaluate the recommendation.\u003C/p>\u003Ch2>Place the US disclosure where the endorsement is seen\u003C/h2>\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>US guidance:\u003C/strong> the FTC requires a material connection to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously near the related endorsement. When the endorsement is both spoken and visual, presenting the disclosure audibly and visually makes it more likely to reach people watching with or without sound.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>In the caption, place the commission statement with the recommendation and before any text likely to be truncated. Do not hide it on the profile page, at the end of a long caption or inside a block of hashtags.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>If a requested DM supplies the affiliate link or repeats the recommendation, place the disclosure in the same message. This follows the FTC’s proximity principle: the recipient should be able to see the commercial connection and purchasing route together.\u003C/p>\u003Ch2>Check all three placements before publishing\u003C/h2>\u003Cul>\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Video:\u003C/strong> the commission disclosure is readable when the product recommendation appears.\u003C/li>\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Caption:\u003C/strong> the relationship is stated before truncated text and is not buried among hashtags.\u003C/li>\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Requested DM:\u003C/strong> the product, disclosure and affiliate destination appear together in the response.\u003C/li>\u003C/ul>\u003Cp>A concise message could read: “Here is the product I mentioned. I may earn a commission if you purchase through this link: [link].” This is an illustrative template, not mandatory legal wording; revise it when the arrangement also includes payment, a gift or another benefit.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>The final distinction is simple: a product tag creates a purchasing path, the Paid partnership label marks platform-defined commercial content, and the creator’s own disclosure explains the commission.
